Samsung has announced the Galaxy Z Fold 7, its thinnest foldable smartphone to date. When folded, it measures just 8.9mm, and when it is unfolded, it is 4.2mm thin. At a mere 215g, it is the world's lightest book-style foldable phone. That makes it lighter than even the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Despite being thin and light, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 packs some serious punch. It is equipped with the 8-core version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, 12GB/16GB RAM, and 256GB/512GB/1TB storage. It also packs in the same 4,400mAh battery found in the thicker Galaxy Z Fold 6. Samsung claims it lasts up to 1 hour longer than its predecessor during video playback.
To make the device thinner, Samsung used reengineered internal components. The Armor FlexHinge uses a water droplet design for a gentler curve for the screen and a multi-rail structure to evenly disperse stress. It also replaces carbon fiber with Grade 4 Titanium Lattice and uses new adhesive materials. The phone has an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 sports bigger displays. The 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x cover screen and the 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x foldable screen have a 120Hz variable refresh rate, 2,600 nits peak brightness, and HDR10+ certification. It has stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos for immersive audio.
The wider cover screen offers a regular phone like experience, especially while typing. The bigger inner screen offers a better multitasking experience.
The cover screen is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 panel. The inner screen is protected by 2x thicker Ultra Thin Glass (UTG). The frame is made using Advanced Armor Aluminum and its back is protected using Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Samsung has improved the camera system. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 features the ‘Ultra'-grade 200MP primary camera with OIS, which captures more detailed videos in all lighting conditions. It is a bigger and higher resolution sensor than the Galaxy Z Fold 6's 50MP primary camera.
The new triple-camera setup also includes a 12MP ultrawide camera, now featuring autofocus, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and OIS. There are two 10MP selfie cameras, one on the cover screen and the other in the foldable screen. The inner selfie camera is also inside a punch hole-shaped display cutout.
Both front-facing cameras have a 100-degree field-of-view that is 17.6% wider and is 2.5x clearer. All the cameras on the phone can record 4K 60fps videos, while the primary camera can also record up to 8K 30fps videos. All video modes support EIS for stable videos.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 runs One UI 8.0 (Android 16) out of the box. Samsung has promised to offer seven generations of Android OS updates and security patches for seven years for the phone. It has Samsung Wallet, Samsung Knox, and Samsung DeX.
One UI 8.0 brings several improvements, including a floatable Google Gemini window, Circle to Search while gaming, and side-by-side comparison of original and edited images on the bigger screen. The Gemini window can be arranged in various layouts on the foldable display.
Improved Generative Edit now suggests things that can be removed from images you capture. Audio Eraser can now remove background noise from videos, voice recordings (including Samsung Notes), and voice transcripts.
The phone has GPS, 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, UWB, NFC, and a USB 3.2 Type-C port. It has a physical SIM card slot, but some markets have a dual-SIM card slot. It has dual-eSIMs as well, but only one eSIM can be used if a physical SIM is already present in the phone.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be offered in three colors: Blue Shadow, Jet Black, and Silver Shadow. There is also a Mint color, but it is only available through Samsung's website. Its pricing starts at $1,999 in the USA, £1,799 in the UK, and €2,099 in the European Union. That is $100 pricier than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Click here to read its detailed pricing.
Obviously, Samsung is offering some excellent benefits to those who pre-order its new foldable. You can find those benefits explained in detail here.
